Biodiversity is the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.
A benefit from biodiversity is that each different organism, of the same species, has an important role to play.
Why is biodiversity valuable to humans?
Biodiversity is important for human lives because It provides economic benefits, protects human health and safety, and offers recreational or aesthetic enjoyment
Why might a species be valuable someday?
- Paper (made from wood)
- Steel (made from iron and carbon)
- Aspirin (made from willow bark)
- Cigarettes (made from tobacco)
- Pencil (made from graphite)
Genetic Variation in Populations
Gene shuffling is defined as a way to rapidly propagate beneficial mutations in a directed evolution experiment. It is used to rapidly increase DNA library size. because it is a recombination between different DNA species with different mutations. Mutations are defined as the changing of the structure of a gene, resulting in a variant form that may be transmitted to subsequent generations, caused by the alteration of single base units in DNA, or the deletion, insertion, or rearrangement of larger sections of genes or chromosomes. Gene shuffling contributes to genetic diversity by bringing together different genes which are responsible for making an organism look, act, and be composed the way they're supposed to. Mutations contribute to genetic variation because mutations created entirely new alleles which are responsible for phenotypes and genotypes in an organisms DNA, and when DNA is altered it produces new looks and actions within an organism.
